Being positive helps! Polyfluorinated phosphines bearing a cyclopropenium cation directly attached to the phosphorus atom ([iPr2N]2C3+PR2; R: A Ph, B p-FC6H4, C 3,5-(CF3)2C6H3) have been synthesized. The remarkable ability of these compounds to increase the natural π-acidity of PtII is exploited in the synthesis of chrysotoxene and epimedoicarisoside A.
